"My results FAR exceeded my expectations…I couldn’t have imagined the life changing results that Dr. Derrick helped me achieve. I cannot recommend him highly enough…everything from the consult to post-op care and his office staff has been wonderful." -Mommy Makeover Patient

When you ask the amazing staff around the office, you quickly learn that the favorite surgery by an absolute landslide is the Mommy Makeover. Why? Because it gives back so much confidence to women after the changes one can undergo after pregnancy and child rearing.

A Mommy Makeover is not your typical procedure though–it is actually a tailored experience right here in North Texas. I work together with you to determine what your goals and desires are. What all a mommy makeover includes is up to you. Do you have excess skin on your stomach that bothers you? Are your breasts in a lower position than before? Are your abdominal muscles separated (diastasis recti)? Has there been a loss of volume in the breast tissue? Is there a desire for a more sculpted look in the abdomen or flanks? What about the stubborn fat in the axillas (near the armpit)? Is there a scar from a c-section that is bothersome? There are many aspects that can be included in your Mommy Makeover surgery.

As your plastic surgeon, you and I work together to come up with a plan for your Mommy Makeover surgery. Commonly, women chose to include a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. Here my goal is to remove excess skin and tighten the abdominal muscles if needed. A common occurrence after children is where the ab muscles have space between them–something called diastasis recti. This can be slight or severe. I have seen it where an entire hand can separate the muscles, which created a large bulge in the patient’s stomach. To repair diastasis recti, I surgically adhere the muscles back to each other.

Next in your Mommy Makeover plan we discuss your desires for your breasts. Has the position of the nipple lowered since having children? What about the volume of your breasts? In your personal Mommy Makeover I can include a breast lift as well as a breast augmentation, where a breast implant is added. I can also add volume through fat grafting (a procedure where liposuction is used to collect excess tissue and then injected into a different area of the body). For a more significant increase in size and implant would be the best option. Remember that just because we are located in Dallas, TX that doesn’t always mean that bigger is better. The goal is to compliment your natural physique, so for a smaller increase in size, fat grafting can be a natural alternative. If one nipple is in a different position than the other, we can also work on having them gain more symmetry during your Mommy Makeover surgery.

The third component of your Mommy Makeover can include liposuction. This is where excess fat tissue is removed from the body. That excess tissue can be implanted back into the body in alternative areas if desired. Popular areas include the breast, buttock, and face.

I find it of the utmost importance to add that there is NO ONE SIZE FITS ALL for a Mommy Makeover procedure. You need to be a partner with your surgeon to determine what your goals are for your body after. Also, I find it so important to mention to moms before undergoing a Mommy Makeover surgery to have a plan for someone to help you. The recovery takes time and a smooth recovery where you can rest will lead to the best results after your Mommy Makeover surgery. Try the best you can to have childcare and help–you do so much, let your community of friends and family help!
