Labiaplasty Surgery in Plano, Texas: What to Expect
6/11/2024
Let’s talk about a less commonly known plastic surgery procedure–labiaplasty. But in reality it is a common procedure, it’s just not often discussed, and due to the nature of the procedure that completely aligns with the privacy women desire sometimes. It’s a sensitive topic, but if a woman is feeling self-conscious or experiencing pain or discomfort why not have the ability to change that?
Often women come to a consultation for a labiaplasty and are desiring the procedure for of the following reasons: cosmetic concerns including how one feels aesthetically as well as in different types of clothing such as leggings and swimsuits, physical discomfort or pain during physical exercise or sexual intercourse, or for medical reasons such as abnormalities or changes from childbirth such as stretching.
During a labiaplasty, the goal is to alter the labia minora (the inner tissues of the female genitalia) to align with the labia major (the outer tissues). The procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia. I personally prefer general anesthesia for maximum comfort as well as that offers the ability to perform multiple procedures such as a Mommy Makeover to target other areas of concern at the same time. A labiaplasty can also be performed on its own, but I commonly have patients request multiple procedures.
Labiaplasty surgery does have restrictions afterwards, such as no sexual intercourse for 4 to 6 weeks and physical activity restrictions for the first month as well. The body needs time to heal and it is important to promote a good environment through rest, hydration, and a healthy diet.
Remember a labiaplasty is a personal decision and always seek out a board certified plastic surgeon or gynecologist for a labiaplasty. Make sure you have the best of the best who have jumped through all of the medical hoops to treat you.
