Botox-Jeuveau-Dysport: The Neuromodulators! How often should you inject?

Now who doesn’t love a good dose of toxin? Do you think I’m crazy asking this question? Haha really though–the most requested cosmetic procedure in the US is all about injecting the toxin into muscles to change movement patterns. So what exactly am I talking about? Neuromodulators like Botox, Jeuveau, Dysport, and other drugs that are similar. Wrinkle-reducing injections of these popular drugs are growing year after year in popularity. A small (very small to be exactly) amount of these neuromodulators are injected precisely and directly into the muscle, causing it to relax (not move as much) which smooths out the overlying skin’s appearance and lessens the look of wrinkles.

These injections typically last about 3 months, sometimes a little less and sometimes they can last up to 6 months. There are a few factors that influence the duration such as metabolism, the climate you live in (warmer climates unfortunately report a decreased timeframe of effectiveness–a new study just displayed this finding), and how much you workout (more = faster metabolism).

If you are unable to get a full three months of wrinkle reduced time from your neuromodulator, it is important to not inject sooner, but to perhaps look at the dose and consider increasing it next time. Why? Because studies have shown that you CAN become tolerant to the drugs. Also, dose = duration, which means that the more you inject, the longer it typically lasts. What happens when you become tolerant? Unfortunately the neuromodulators won’t work as well. Studies have displayed that a key to growing tolerant is having injections too close together.
